From Our Chaplain

  • Posted on October 9, 2012 at 1:02 pm

Dear members and Friends of Magdalen Chapel,

October at the Chapel begins with St Francis of Assisi, and after a visit to his shrine and city of Assisi only 2 weeks ago, you will expect me to have something inspiring to say about him! I hope you will not be disappointed as we see the link between St Francis’ Canticle of the Creatures and Harvest Festival Thanksgiving on Sunday 7th.

We might even want to arrange a showing of “Brother Sun and Sister Moon”, the film of his life, sometime soon. Meanwhile Harvest Evensong may encourage you to stay for a little soirée,

on a Harvest Theme – this will be very much D-I-Y so Harvest memories and tit-bits will be most welcome, following Evensong.

Thinking of Harvest, i.e. food, I was intrigued on return to find in a favourite local supermarket that Italian pears were on sale at half the price we paid in an equivalent popular supermarket in Italy. Can anyone explain why this should be?

In addition to other matters inviting your interest in this leaflet, it has been suggested that there would be some enthusiasm for an Advent Study Group as part of your other preparation for Christmas. There will be a leaflet available for your daily use during Advent (beginning December 2nd). Please ensure your name is on the list for this Group – with a note of your availability, please.

Finally, I am pleased to receive requests to visit the sick or housebound, as time allows, and encourage you to keep the Prayer Request book up to date.

I hope it will be possible to produce further editions of this leaflet, the next one in time for Advent and Christmas. Please let us know of matters to be drawn to the attention of members and friends of the chapel  by 18th November.

With all good wishes,

Yours sincerely,

David
